Glee Season 2 Episode 12 - Silly Love Songs

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

In the meantime, the Russian roulette of recycled relationships intertwines Sam, Finn, Rachel and Quinn yet again. Finn, buoyed by his comeback status as Top Stud, sets out to mack out with Quinn again by setting up a kissing booth at school. Funds go to Glee’s trip to Nationals, of course. Quinn demurs, but quickly changes her mind when Sam, as her boyfriend, gets all up in her grill about how close Finn’s and Quinn’s faces were. Firework erupts. But not between them.

Rachel, meanwhile, tries to buy back Finn’s affection with a $100 bill. But he turns her way, and in his own touching way, gives her a holiday present he meant to give her before they broke up. It’s a sign (a closure perhaps?!) that she must rely on talent now, not love. Although her version of Katy Perry’s “Firework” left a lot to be desired (she needs to tone it down), one can’t help but feel for her, as she gamely stakes her independence.

Santana did her a favor, though, by cleverly exposing the rampant cheating of Quinn and the sham of Sam’s relationship by giving Queen Bee and Quarterback mono. As she explains, “Oh please, I’ve had mono so many times it turned into stereo.”

At the choir room, Artie continues his slaying of the Michael Jackson discography by ably performing “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing),” with Mike Chang dancing backup. Why is he on this show? Oh, right, the abs, which apparently is good enough for Tina Cohen-Chang, as she breaks down “My Funny Valentine” of the musical Babes in Arms into a crumpled mess.

Boy, do we miss Kurt to liven things up. Unfortunately, he’s playing second fiddle in his puppy-dog love/crush. Blaine may know what Kurt’s coffee order is, but he’s got no clue about Kurt’s interest in him as a boyfriend. Particularly because Blaine’s hot on Gap guy, Jeremiah, the one with the perfect locks. He even enlists the Warblers to do a Robin Thicke group performance of “When I Get You Alone,” creepily stalking the poor T-shirt folder at the store. He’s working, Blaine. Well, no longer, he got fired after Blaine ambushed him with his love song, and Jeremiah’s boss didn’t like it. Besides, Jeremiah told Blaine, he could get arrested dating him. Oh, the pits.

Kurt finally gets the courage to tell Blaine his feelings for him, and clueless Blaine finally gets it. They make some some reference about Meg Ryan, and they laughed about it like two gay guys at a Cher concert. Perhaps the friendship will lead to something, but for now performing Paul McCartney’s “Silly Love Songs” will do. All the patrons at Breadstix’s Lonely Hearts Club sure do appreciate it. Kurt says, “To all the singles out there, this is our year.”
